Shri Mahendra Nanji Mehta is a prominent Industrialist, Philanthropist and Parliamentarian in Uganda. In 1962, he was elected as a Member of First Parliament and appointed member of the Planning Commission in Uganda after independence. He served on Government boards of various public sector companies.

Mr. Mehta is also the Chairman of the Kenindia Insurance Companies, one of the largest insurance companies in Kenya and in Eastern and Central Africa, which was founded in the year 1978 in Nairobi, Kenya. It has been controlled by the major government owned insurance companies of India with local participation of Kenyan shareholders.

Mr. Mehta is very conscious of his social responsibility and continuously donates funds for various charitable causes. Promotion of education, both in India and in Africa is his key focus.

On 12th December, 2008, H.E. MwaiKibaki – The President of the Republic of Kenya bestowed upon Mr. Mehta a Head of State Commendation (HSC) for the role he has played in the economy of Kenya in the last thirty years.

On 14th September, 2012, Mr. Mehta received the Lifetime Achievement Award and Certificate of Recognition from the Prime Minister of Uganda during the Pearl of Africa Lifetime Achievement Awards (PALITA Awards). He has also been conferred the Golden Jubilee Presidential Medal from the President of Uganda on 9th October, 2013, in recognition for his contributions in the development of the country.
