    What is the venue for PBD 2017 Convention and how far it is from Bengaluru City Centre and Bengaluru international Airport?

    The venue of PBD 2017 Convention will be Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC - Address: 10th Mile, Tumkur Road, Madavara Post, Dasanapura Hobli, Bengaluru – 562123). It is about 19 kms from Bengaluru City Centre and 40 kms from Bengaluru International Airport. Travel time on normal working days from Bengaluru Airport to BIEC Centre would be about 50 - 60 mins and 25-30 mins from Bengaluru City Centre to BIEC Centre.

    How far is Bengaluru International Airport from the City Centre?

    Bengaluru International Airport known as Kempegowda International Airport is situated to the north of Bengaluru on the National Highway 7. It is 32 kms from the Bengaluru City Centre. During normal working days, it takes about 40 mins to an hour to reach the City Centre from the Airport.

    What is the recommended date of arrival in Bengaluru?

    For delegates participating in Youth PBD, recommended date of arrival in Bengaluru to attend PBD 2017 Convention is 6 January 2017. For delegates who want to attend the PBD Convention recommended date of arrival is 7 January 2017. The Government of Karnataka is arranging some sector specific industrial visits for delegates. If you wish to undertake these visits you may plan your travel dates accordingly. You may also see Karnataka Tourism Development Corporation’s local tour packages for PBD delegates, before you plan your travel dates.

    Is it mandatory to attend PBD 2017 Convention on all days?

    It is advisable that the delegates attend all the events relating to PBD 2017 Convention on 8 and 9 January, 2017. Delegates are also welcome to attend Youth PBD programme on 7 January, 2017.

    What is the registration procedure for PBD 2017?

    Registration for participation in PBD 2017 Convention is mandatory for all participants, including official delegates, invited guests, government officials, artists and performers and journalists. Registration will be only through an online process. For details of registration click here:

    What is the registration/participation fee for PBD 2017 Convention?

    PBD delegates/participants are required to pay the registration fee (except Government of India’s special invitees). Individual registration fees are given below. Group registration fee can also be availed by PBD delegates, who wish to participate as members of an Indian Association, Community organization or Professional organization. The registration fees schedule for individual registration is as follows:

    The registration fee will include meals (lunch and dinner at the Conference venue) during the Conference period. A Conference bag with programme, access to lunch and dinner venues, cultural programmes will also be provided to the participants on arrival. Delegates can pick up the Conference Bag from the special counters set up at selected Hotels or the PBD Convention venue from 5 January 2017

    Group Registration

    (c) Group Registration Discounts. Members of an Indian Association, Indian Community Organization, Professional bodies of Indian Origin persons can register as a group and benefits from the special rates applicable for such group and benefit from the special rates applicable for such group registration. In order to register and be eligible to receive the discounted group rates, the number of registrations in a group would need to be at least 10. The rates of discount applicable along with the numbers of registrations in the group are indicated below.

    10 to 20 members – 5%

    21 to 50 members – 10%

    51 to 75 members – 15%

    76 to 100 members – 20%

    101 to 150 members – 25%

    151 to 200 members – 35%

    More than 200 members – 50%

    (c) Members of Global organisation of persons of Indian Origin (GOPIO) 50% discount for Indian Origin Registrants if Number of members registering is more than 50. If there are less than 50 GOPIO members in the group, they can avail normal group registration rates.

    How can I pay the registration fees?

    After logging on to the PBD portal, the registration fees may be paid online either through secure payment gateway by credit/debit card or through Internet Banking.

    What is the last date for registration?

    The last date for registration as delegate/participant in PBD 2017 Convention is 15 December 2016.

    Can registration be done after 15 December, 2016?

    It is advisable that delegates register online by 7 January 2017 . No registrations will be accepted after this date. Walk-ins and local registrations are not available.

    Is there a refund of participation/registration fees, if I wish to cancel my participation in the PBD?

    Refund of 50% of registration fees would be allowed for cancellation of participation by any delegate/participant in PBD 2017 Convention. The last date for receipt of refund request for PBD 2017 will be 5 January 2017. Thereafter, no request for any refund would be accepted. Please see refund procedure at this link: Refund Policy

    What are visa requirements for travel to India?

    If you are a Non-resident Indian national, you don't require a visa to travel India. If you are a person of Indian Origin, your valid PIO or OCI card can provide visa free entry to India. If you do not have a PIO or OCI card, please apply at the nearest Indian Embassy or consulate for a visa. Foreign passport holders are advised to apply well in advance for Visa. You may please apply for "Conference Visa" to attend PBD 2017 Convention. Confirmed registration for the Conference will be required at the time of submission of visa application forms at the Indian Embassy/High Commission/Consulate.     How can I collect the Conference badge/ access card?

    All registered participants/delegates will be provided a delegate card/badge which they would be required to wear all time at the convention venue. PBD registered delegates can collect the badges/cards at the special registered counters in selected Hotels in Bengaluru/PBD Convention venue set up for the purpose from 5th January 2017 onwards.

    Where can PBD delegates stay in Bengaluru?

    Several accommodation choices are available in Bengaluru. A list of hotels which have offered special rates for PBD Delegates/Participants is on the website. These bookings can be made online through the web portal link of the hotels. For Government of India invitees, accommodation would be arranged by the Organizers.

    What are the arrangements for transport from Hotels to PBD venue?

    On days of the PBD Convention, designated shuttle bus services would be available at regular intervals at Central locations in the Bengaluru City for the registered delegates/participants to reach the Convention venue.
    For invited delegates/speakers and Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardees, the organizers will arrange transport during the period 6-10 January 2017.

    Is health insurance required?

    PBD Delegates based outside India are advised to bring medical and travel insurance for the period of their stay in India.

    What is the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award?

    The Award is conferred on a Non-Resident Indian, Person of Indian Origin or an organization or institution established and run by Non-Resident Indians or Persons of Indian Origin, who have made a significant contribution in any one of the following fields:

    Better understanding abroad of India;

    Support to India’s causes and concerns in a tangible way;

    Building closer links between India, the overseas Indian community and their country of residence;

    Social and humanitarian causes in India or abroad;

    Welfare of the local Indian community;

    Philanthropic and charitable work;

    Eminence in one’s field or outstanding work, which has enhanced India’s prestige in the country of residence;r

    Eminence in skills which has enhanced India’s prestige in that country (for non-professional workers);

    The Award is conferred by the President of India as a part of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention. PBSA is the highest honour conferred on overseas Indians. So far, 179 Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards have been conferred on PIOs and NRIs.

    Can I transfer my entry or obtain a refund?

    Entry to the PBD Convention will only be given to the person who has registered. A photo Id and verification proof needs to be shown to obtain the delegate badge for entering the PBD convention. The delegate cannot transfer his badge to any other person.

    What is the registration/participation fee for Youth PBD 2017?

    Special Registration Fees for young PIOs, NRIs and young Resident Indians

    (a) Indian Residents (those based in India & between 18 to 35 years) US$50 only for 7 January only;
    No registrations allowed for other days
    (b) Young persons of Indian Origin and NRIs(18 to 35 years) US$100 for one day
    US$150 for any two days during 7 – 9 January;
    US$200 for all three days i.e. 7, 8, 9 January 2017.

    Refund of Registration Fees for PBD 2017

    Refund of 50% of registration fees would be allowed in the event of cancellation of participation by any delegate/participant in Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) 2017 Convention, to be held in Bengaluru from 7-9 January, 2017. The last date for receipt of refund request for PBD 2017 would be 5 January 2017. Thereafter, no request for any refund would be accepted.

    The refund procedure would be as follows:

    • The PBD 2017 delegate/participant would submit a request for refund of registration fees online on the PBD 2017 website giving his full name, registration number allotted at the time of making payment, amount paid, date of registration and his bank account details. Copy of online payment receipt to be enclosed;
    • All online refund requests received by the Ministry of External Affairs up to 5 January 2017, would be processed by the PBD 2017 Secretariat;
    • After verifying the online payment made by the concerned PBD 2017 delegate for his/her registration, the PBD 2017 secretariat would approach the Accounts Department of the Ministry of External Affairs for approval for refund of 50% registration fees. Thereafter, Ministry will advise State Bank of India to remit the refund amount to the concerned PBD 2017 delegate/participant’s bank account;
    • Service tax levied by the State Bank of India for remitting the refund amount to the concerned PBD 2017 delegate/participant would be borne by the Ministry of External Affairs.
