The year 2020 has brought some unforeseen challenges for the humankind in the form of a pandemic no one anticipated. More than 8 months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for Nationwide Lockdown things are slowly returning back to normal. In these unprecedented times when the civilization is forced to stay behind the doors, the Government needs to function to keep the wheels of the society running.

While the government acknowledges the inputs of every Indian in the development of India, the particular contribution of Overseas Indians cannot be discounted with. To mark this contribution, Pravasi Bhartiya Divas is organized every year on 9th January. This year due to Covid Pandemic, Pravasi Bhariya Divas Convention will take place in an online format, keeping pace with time. The convention provides a platform to the Overseas Indian community to engage with the government and people of the land of their ancestors for mutually beneficial activities. The convention is also very useful in networking among the overseas Indian community residing in various parts of the world and enables them to share their experiences in various fields.

In light of the importance of Pravasi Bharitya Divas, it was decided that the day for the overseas community cannot be dispensed with this year, thus it was decided to uphold the PBD in an online format with the participants taking part from the comfort and safety of their homes.

The 16th PBD Convention is being held virtually on 9th January 2021 and will be preceded by five virtual pre-PBD conferences in 2020-21 in run-up to the main Convention on the following themes

  • Bringing together India's Young Achievers & Diaspora (different regions of the world) Young Achievers from different walks of life
  • Forging Media & Entertainment Partnership to showcase India @75
  • Dialogue with Diaspora Business Leaders & CEOs – Targetting US$ 5 Trillion Aatmanirbhar Bharat Economy by boosting MSMEs
  • Regional PBD – GCC -India Pravasi Bharatiya Divas
  • Role of Diaspora in Promotion of Indian Culture

The PBD Convention will be inaugurated by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India 9th January 2021. The winners of the Bharat koJaniye Quiz will also be announced in the Inaugural Session. The PBD Convention will include two PlenarySessions where discussions will be held among eminent experts on the following themes

  • Plenary (I) : Role of Diaspora in Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
  • Plenary (II): Post – Covid Scenario in Health, Economy, Social and International Relations.

This will be followed by the Valedictory Session where the Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Awards will be announced to honour30 eminent overseas Indians for their contributions to various fields both in India and abroad and Hon'ble Rashtrapatiji will deliver the Valedictory address to the diaspora.

The PBD convention as well as the preceding PBD Conferences will be streamed live across on virtual platforms to enable every Indian and Diaspora member to engage and participate in the PBD Celebrations.
